STUDENT COMPUTER LAB SPECIALIST

Provides assistance in an academic environment with computer-related duties. May be required to:

  • Serve as instructional assistant under direction of faculty and staff
  • Monitor computer-based training sessions, user behavior, and use of equipment, including any time limits
  • Perform lab start-up and shut-down procedures
  • Sign users in and out of computer applications
  • Secure systems, facility, and equipment
  • Update and maintain facility schedules
  • Develop and/or implement training and documentation to assist staff and faculty in technology use
  • Collect student questions and report to faculty or staff
  • Install, test, and maintain hardware and software
  • Record and report hardware/software problems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic hardware and software problems within department guidelines
  • Operate and maintain hardware and software
  • Design, write, test, and/or implement program modules to extract data and solve problems
  • Assist in data collection and statistical analysis
  • Perform data entry, record keeping and other administrative tasks
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • Assist in training of other student employees
  • Complete miscellaneous duties as required

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in information technology
  • Ability to operate a computer and work responsibly in lab environment
  • Specialized knowledge of various applications or program languages (e.g., SQL, shell scripting)
  • Familiarity with email clients and mail protocols (e.g., Outlook, Exchange)
  • Skill in working within mainframe, Web, and Windows environments
  • Ability to operate a computer and advanced computer literacy
  • Customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • May need to lift approximately 25 lbs.
