STUDENT HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES OUTREACH ASSISTANT

Provides assistance in various on-campus or off-campus locations to address a variety of community needs and provide services that are in the public interest. Areas of service might include health care, education, recreation, environmental, and public safety. Student may be required to:

  • Assist in program implementation, research, development, public education, and other tasks to improve the quality of life for area residents or to solve particular community problems. Examples:
    1. Organize and implement recreational and social activities for senior citizens
    2. Assist staff members to provide recreational and social activities for adults with physical and/or intellectual challenges
    3. Prepare & deliver meals, clean common areas, organize activities, and/or perform administrative tasks in shelters and soup kitchens
    4. Perform basic patient care, administrative, and/or educational tasks in hospitals, clinics, or skilled nursing facilities
    5. Monitor publicly-used facilities for security throughout the day
    6. Attend staff meetings and training sessions
    7. Perform miscellaneous duties as directed

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Prior coursework in related fields a plus
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to community service
