Assists public safety and/or maintenance personnel. May be required to:

  • Answer emergency phone calls for fire, police, ambulance, or maintenance departments per established procedures
  • Answer routine business phone calls
  • Communicate via radio with fire apparatus, ambulances, police, regional fire communication centers, and emergency maintenance personnel
  • Communicate patient medical information to hospital emergency rooms
  • Keep log of incidents
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed


  • Ability to make decisions under stress with a minimum of supervision
  • Customer service and communication skills (verbal and written) including the ability to speak clearly and concisely on the phone
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Ability to operate a computer and phone
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Availability work which may include day, evening, night, or vacation shifts
