How did you find your position? What was the process like from application to the offer stage? Please detail your experience.

In 2022, I found a JobX listing that led me to work at the Avery Point Library while I was a student there. When I transferred to the main campus in Storrs in 2023, I was fortunate to continue my role at the Homer Babbage Library. This smooth transition allowed me to quickly resume my work. Initially, I faced many challenges in the role, but with the guidance of my supervisor, Chay Reed, I was able to navigate them successfully.

What made you apply for your position?

I applied for the position of Student Library Assistant because I love books and helping others. Working in the library seemed like a great way to be around books and help people find what they need.

How have you been able to balance your schoolwork and work responsibilities? Please provide details of any challenges or hurdles you have encountered.

I balance my schoolwork and work responsibilities by setting priorities, creating schedules, and staying organized. I use tools like calendars and to-do lists to manage my time effectively. Communication with supervisors and professors helps me handle any conflicts or challenges that arise. While it can be stressful at times, these strategies have helped me manage both areas effectively.

What are your personal keys to success and what aspects of your job do you find the most fulfilling or enjoyable?

My personal keys to success include setting clear goals, staying focused, and being open to feedback. I prioritize time management and organization to meet deadlines effectively. In my job, I find fulfillment in helping others and making a positive impact. I enjoy learning and growing professionally, which makes my work rewarding.

Describe your typical day at work?

A typical day at work for me involves a variety of tasks and responsibilities. As a Student Library Assistant, I may be responsible for assisting patrons in finding books and resources, checking materials in and out, shelving books, and maintaining the organization of library spaces.

What skills have you acquired or developed in your on-campus job that can contribute to your career readiness or professional development?

My on-campus job has helped me develop valuable skills for my future career. I’ve improved my communication, organization, and time management skills through interactions with colleagues and patrons. I’ve also learned to solve problems quickly and adapt to new situations, which will be useful in any professional setting. Overall, my job has given me a solid foundation of transferable skills that will contribute to my career readiness and professional development.
