STUDENT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST/APPRENTICE
Drives state vehicle (e.g., bus, van, car) and provides assistance in transportation-related areas. May be required to:
- Operate an automatic or standard shift vehicle to transport University personnel, visitors, and/or students to and from various sites (e.g., various campus locations, community service agencies, airports, conferences, athletic events, etc.)
- Operate a bus or accessible vehicle under direct supervision as part of the process to obtain a public service commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Inform passengers of schedule or itinerary
- Complete routes on a timed schedule
- Handle money and fee bills when applicable
- Perform recordkeeping tasks and tabulate reports
- Perform basic administrative tasks such as filing, copying, filling out forms, etc.
- Assist in training other student employees
- Develop student work schedules
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
- Perform miscellaneous duties as required
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar position
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Valid CT driver’s license and clean driving record
- For passenger endorsement/CDL training, may require two years previous driving experience
- May require completion of CDL driving course within specified timeframe
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse array of customers, including those with disabilities
- Ability to operate a computer, phone, and two-way radio
- May need to perform physical duties such as lifting baggage
