STUDENT MEDICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Assists professional health care staff. May be required to:
- Provide non-professional nursing care including assisting in emergency clinic, changing dressings, preparing treatments, or attending an ambulance
- Provide aid in laboratory facility including slide preparation and microscopic examination of specimens
- Assist nursing staff with patient care and clinical duties including fitting crutches, cleaning teeth, and taking x-rays
- Perform light cleaning, disinfection, and preparation of examining rooms and patient care areas
- Maintain supplies and stocking of equipment in examining rooms and offices
- Wash, sterilize, and prepare equipment for procedures
- Transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher
- Complete paperwork, filing, data entry and other clerical duties
- Provide directions and assist in patient flow
- Assist in health education sessions; give vouchers at end of sessions
- Transport laboratory specimens
- Handle and remove infectious waste using Infection Control Procedures
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
- Assist in the training of other student workers
- Perform miscellaneous duties as required
Requirements:
- Previous emergency medical training, first aid, or Health Service Medical Tech experience
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Patient service and communication skills (verbal and written)
- May need to work evenings, nights, and weekends
