STUDENT CATERING SPECIALIST

Assists catering staff in various on-campus locations. May be required to:

  • Assist supervisor to organize and delegate work for both front and back ends of operations
  • Collect and organize review sheets for functions
  • Assist with simple purchasing, bookkeeping, budgeting, and/or payroll tasks (e.g., organizing student timesheets, tracking receipts, etc.)
  • Set up and clear tables for formal dining functions
  • Prepare and serve hors d’oeuvres, meals, beverages
  • Set up and clean up service stations
  • Clean banquet facility and/or kitchen (e.g., mopping floors)
  • Wash dishes, pots, and pans by hand or with dishwashing equipment
  • Respond appropriately to customer questions and concerns
  • Assist in training of other student employees
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar position
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of service etiquette, wine service, layout for formal place settings, and other issues fundamental to catered events
  • Experience in kitchen/catering equipment operation and safe food handling procedures
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • Ability to work in fast-paced team environment
  • Adherence to uniform or dress code
  • Scheduling ability to maintain office hours
  • If serving alcoholic beverages: T.I.P.P.S. certification
  • Customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as heavy lifting (carrying service trays with 10-12 dinners per tray) or standing for long periods of time
