STUDENT MUSEUM SPECIALIST
Assists faculty and staff in the care and exhibition of works of artistic, historical, and/or scientific value. May be required to:
- Perform research on upcoming exhibits and related issues
- Develop, edit, and/or distribute educational materials, exhibition catalogues, and other written documents
- Assist in the development and execution of workshops and other programming within the museum
- Communicate information about specific exhibits and museum policies
- Compile and analyze statistics regarding museum activities
- Protect collections and ensure safety by monitoring patron activity within the building
- Classify, sort, mount, and label objects, works, and specimens
- Display objects in an aesthetically pleasing manner
- Complete documentation and data entry to catalog and index objects
- Clean specimens/works as necessary
- Assist in the training of other student employees
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
- Perform miscellaneous duties as required
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a similar position
- Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate a computer, phone, two-way radio, etc.
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to stand for long periods of time as needed
- May need to perform physical duties such as lifting
- Customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
- May need to work nights and/or weekends
