STUDENT PEER COUNSELING SPECIALIST

Provides advice and/or guidance for University community members. May be required to:

  • Provide information & resources in one or more of the following areas:
  1. Personal Development (e.g., decision-making, assertiveness training, stress management)
  2. Health (e.g., contraception, pregnancy, nutrition)
  3. Education (e.g., test preparation, time management, test anxiety, reading efficiency)
  4. Career (e.g., resume writing, interview techniques, aptitude and interest identification)
  5. Financial (e.g., identification of income sources/employment opportunities, budget management)
  • Interpret assessment results
  • Act as liaison between clients and university, state, and federal departments and agencies
  • Assist in the training of other student workers
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in a similar position
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate a computer and phone
  • Computer literacy
  • Customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
