STUDENT MUSEUM SPECIALIST

Assists faculty and staff in the care and exhibition of works of artistic, historical, and/or scientific value. May be required to:

  • Perform research on upcoming exhibits and related issues
  • Develop, edit, and/or distribute educational materials, exhibition catalogues, and other written documents
  • Assist in the development and execution of workshops and other programming within the museum
  • Communicate information about specific exhibits and museum policies
  • Compile and analyze statistics regarding museum activities
  • Protect collections and ensure safety by monitoring patron activity within the building
  • Classify, sort, mount, and label objects, works, and specimens
  • Display objects in an aesthetically pleasing manner
  • Complete documentation and data entry to catalog and index objects
  • Clean specimens/works as necessary
  • Assist in the training of other student employees
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in a similar position
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to operate a computer, phone, two-way radio, etc.
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time as needed
  • May need to perform physical duties such as lifting
  • Customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • May need to work nights and/or weekends
